Research shows a strong connection between interpersonal violence and animal abuse. In many cases, survivors of domestic violence fear leaving their pets behind or worry about their pets being harmed if they do. In fact, a 2019 survey found that 50% of survivors would not seek shelter if they couldn’t bring their pets with them (source: urinyc.org).
Our previous facility’s communal living setup prevented us from housing pets alongside survivors for years. But thanks to the apartment-style living in our new facility, we are now able to offer a safe haven for pets as well. We are proud to welcome dogs, cats, and small animals into our shelter, so that survivors can stay with their beloved animals, knowing they are both safe.
We are committed to supporting the safety and well-being of survivors and their pets together. If you’d like to help, you can make a financial donation today or donate pet supplies from our wish list. Thank you for helping us provide a safe place for both survivors and their pets!
If you’d like to discuss shelter options for you and your pet, call our 24-hour helpline at 920-235-5998.
Our helpline is staffed 24/7/365 by trained Crisis Advocates who are ready to help survivors, family, friends, law enforcement, and other service providers with safety planning, emotional support, domestic abuse education, community resources, and more. Call any time of the day or night to speak with a knowledgeable, compassionate Advocate.
Just like any home, we have constant basic needs such as cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, and coffee. We gratefully accept donations of these items and more. Please call ahead to arrange a time to drop off donations – 920-235-5998.
